Just In Time

by Pastor Mark Fisher

October 3, 2016

A letter had been written. A decision had been made for the young man who had no hope.

It was one of those rare days. As an engineering tech crew chief I seldom worked alone in the summers, so today was one of those blessed days of tramping around the woods doing my job without interference. Little did I know what the day would bring!

It had been a beautiful sunny day and I was fully enjoying the creation and Creator. On my drive back I was joyously singing of my salvation when I had to stop for gas. The attendant, an acquaintance of mine, came out to greet me. He questioned how my day was going, to which I answered, “Great, due to the fact that Jesus Christ is my Savior!” He saw my joy and heard the name of Jesus Christ. A conversation quickly ensued.

The discussion continued inside the service station. More than anything he desired to hear about Christ; he was all questions. Time was limited so we made arrangements to meet again that evening.

Early in our evening conversation he confessed that he had trusted Jesus Christ that afternoon and was ready to share his story; I listened. He had recently written a letter to a co-worker explaining his hopeless misery and desire for his life to end; but it was the message of joy and hope in Christ that changed everything that day. He was now experiencing joy and peace! He was overwhelmed to be a child of God.

Jesus message to him was just in time! He had accepted Jesus' open invitation, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). “Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst'” (John 6:35).

The young man had embraced Jesus; the One who satisfies the hurting, longing soul!
